Washington, DC; November 16, 2011 — The Association of American Publishers (AAP) and its K-12 School Division members have joined in support of national Digital Learning Day, February 1, and will serve as a partner in the initiative.
The event will unite teachers, schools, administrators, community leaders, parents and students nationwide in a shared goal of incorporating more digital content and technologies in classrooms to improve learning. Co-chairs of the Digital Learning Council, which is organizing the initiative, are Jeb Bush, Chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education and former governor of Florida, and Bob Wise, President of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia.
“Education publishers’ commitment to Digital Learning Day stems from the mission we share with the initiative’s other partners: to bring top quality learning content into the classroom through cutting edge technology,” said Jay Diskey, Executive Director, School Division, AAP.
Diskey added, “Digital resources and services play increasingly central roles in publisher-developed instructional systems,” with AAP member publishing houses currently offering a breadth of digital content for teachers and students. Among them are dedicated websites created to support student textbooks and links to digital support materials; electronic lessons plans created to correlate to state standards; online formative assessment with instructional support along with online tutoring and test banks; data systems; and individual DVDs, CDs and audio files. Additionally, publishers provide digitally-based teacher presentations and productivity tools.
AAP is the national trade association representing more than 275 premier U.S. publishers of high-quality entertainment, education, professional and scholarly content, produced using the most current technology, reaching the world. For more information, visit www.publishers.org
